R. Sumter Griffith was born in 1860, the son of F. L. Griffith. He came to the Maryland Agricultural College from Friendship, Maryland, attending the College from 1877 to 1880, leaving after his sophomore year. According to conflicting sources, he later entered the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Baltimore, Maryland, from which he appears to have graduated in 1886. Dr. R.
